What is Strategic Planning? Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people. There is no one perfect strategic planning model for each organization. Each organization ends up developing its own nature and model of strategic planning.

A core component of any model is Vision and Mission statements. There is a lot of confusion as to what these are. Our definition of them is as follows:
A Visionstatement outlines what the organization wants to be. It concentrates on the future. It is a source of inspiration. It provides clear decision-making criteria.
A Mission statement tells you the fundamental purpose of the organization. It concentrates on the present. It defines the customer and the critical processes. It informs you of the desired level of performance.
An advantage of having a statement is that it creates value for those who get exposed to it such as prospects, customers, shareholders, managers and employees. These statements create a sense of direction and opportunity.

A Corporate Scorecard is used to track performance against strategic goals.
A Corporate Dashboard is used to give the C-Suite a snapshot of the 'Big Picture' to drive Organizational Change to meet strategic goals.
